Aborted Ferratta
Attempts to do VF Berti are thwarted by the silly amounts of snow

Cristallo Group. The plan for the day had been to do a traverse from Cortina back to San VIto via VF Berti but the amount of snow required a change of plan. Tofanes Group Cristallo Group Lots of snow ahead. Initially progress was pretty fast but once we hit the steeper stuff it really slowed us down. Snow Stomping up the snow Nowhere near the ferrata yet. The snow made progress very slow... Cristallo Group Trying to work out where the path goes under the snow. All the paint is buried and the complex terrain means it takes a wee while to locate the correct route. The number of goat tracks suggests we weren't the first folks to lose the trail. It looks improbable but the route continues up the snow on the left - lack of footsteps from this point suggests that no one has been this way recently. Kicking steps up the snow. About this point we were cursing not having brought crampons today The bright blue Lake Sorapis Marmolada in the distance Tofanes Group Looking down to Lake Sorapis. We realised around this point (almost 4 hours walking) that with all the snow we were potentially going to run out of time to do the ferrata so decide to head down to the lake and do a circult back to Cortina. Heading down Heading down... now the snow is actually making things easier as you can run/slide down. Looking back up to the Col where we turned around Fossils, I think. Looking back up to the glacier Still heading down the snow Colours on the snow Now onto the loose path with Lake Sorapis below Lake Sorapis Tongue of the glacier Tongue of the glacier Fiona has now acquired a large stick which sometimes helps but keeps getting stuck in the snow Mega twisted rocks Cristallo Group again
