Arkle - May 2012
More glorious weather for an equally glorious hill

We started the day at An Earachd again. This is the view of Arkle from the south. Not much snow left compared with 2 days previously. Beinn Leoid shrouded in the early morning cloud which would soon burn off. Ben Stack as viewed from the East whilst walking up Arkle There is a path of sorts up Arkle Beinn Leoid with Conival and Ben More Assynt behind Beinn Leoid with Conival and Ben More Assynt behind Arkle summit in the distance (left) and 758m cairn (right). The terrain is all fairly rocky from this point although there's an obvious path once on the main ridge. Foinaven really is quite a big brute! View of the curving ridge round to Arkle's main summit from the 758m top. Scope for various scree runs if you fancied a rapid descent. Fiona approaching the 758m cairn. Ben Stack Arkle's main ridge There are quite a few big rock crevasses on Arkle's summit ridge. - quite amusing in summer but potentially lethal in the winter if you can't see them. Looking back toward the 758m cairn on Arkle Arkle summit ridge with crevassed pavement Arkle with Foinaven behind Foinaven Meall Horn and Bealach Horn with Ben Hope in the distance (left). Most of the weekend snow has gone. Looking back up towards Arkle. Mucking around at the big boulder near Lone on the walk out. Panorama taken from Arkle with Foinaven, Ben Hope and Meall Horn all visible and Arkle's ridge stretching off to the right.
